Climate Action in Greater Manchester's Visitor Economy

MP WW MM 3 1043 large

As a signatory of the Glasgow Declaration for Climate Action in Tourism, Marketing Manchester has committed to reducing the impact of tourism on the climate, and measuring and reporting on carbon emissions produced by the visitor economy. These two documents set out how we are going to do this.

The Climate Action Plan (CAP) for Greater Manchester's Visitor Economy sets out the scale of the impact tourism has on Greater Manchester's climate, and presents our plan on how Marketing Manchester will help reduce the impact. It covers the five key areas of the Glasgow Declaration: measure, decarbonise, regenerate, collaborate and finance.

The Sustainable Tourism Action Plan (STAP) has been developed to set out a work scheme to help achieve the aims of the CAP, alongside the GM Visitor Economy Strategy key target of being a top 40 city on the Global Destination Sustainability Index, and the number one city in England. It also supports the strategy's principle of being 'regenerative and responsible', and the strategic aim of 'enhancing the visitor offer and experience'.

The plan focusses on 4 main areas: Visitors, Business & Event, Governance, and Community, setting out 12 aims and 40 goals. The STAP will be reported on annually as part of Marketing Manchester's commitment as a signatory of the Glasgow Declaration for Climate Action in Tourism.
