Low Carbon Tourism Report for Greater Manchester

Marketing Manchester, alongside Visit England, have commissioned the Tyndall Centre for Climate Change research to assess the impact of the visitor economy on Greater Manchester's environment. Covering three main areas of transport, accommodation, and attractions, the report details the current climate impact of these areas and makes recommendations for how Marketing Manchester can work with stakeholders and partners across the visitor economy to reduce the impact in line with GMCA's net zero by 2038 target.

The Manchester Framework for Tourism Carbon Accounting

Marketing Manchester, alongside Visit England, have commissioned the Tyndall Centre for Climate Change to produce a carbon accounting framework for tourism. The framework encourages destinations across the UK to use the same methodology as Greater Manchester to assess their carbon impact, and put in place action plans to help reduce this impact in line with their local targets, and by 2050 at the latest. The framework is a step by step guide to the data sources used in the Greater Manchester report, and should be used alongside local data to produce an informed climate impact assessment.
