Greater Manchester has measured tourism activity through the Global Tourism
Solutions (UK) STEAM model since 2000.
• STEAM measures the value of visitor spend coming through Greater Manchester
businesses and follows the spend as it is dispersed across several sectors, including
hospitality, arts and culture, retail, transport and sport.
• It also measures the economic impact of the goods, materials and services procured
through the supply chain to serve visitors in these businesses.
